Statistics of Extreme Weather Events: Analysis of Frequency, Trends, Intensity, and Duration

📢 We are pleased to share research results that will form part of our comprehensive catalog. Some of these findings have already been published in scientific journals and presented at conferences (see the Publications/Scientific Papers section on our website for more details).
In this brief announcement, we highlight selected results from Deliverable D2.2: Statistics of Extreme Weather Events (including analyses of frequency, trends, intensity, and duration) and Milestone 2.3: Analysis of Extreme Temperatures.

The analysis focuses on extreme temperatures 🌡️ and precipitation ☔ through various indices, such as the number of days with precipitation exceeding 10 mm (RR10), 20 mm (RR20), and 30 mm (RR30), as well as maximum one-day (RX1day), three-day (RX3day), and five-day (RX5day) precipitation amounts. Additionally, temperature indices are presented, including maximum (TX) and minimum (TN) temperatures per decade, the number of frost days (FD) and ice days (ID), and the number of tropical (TR) and summer days (SU). Besides a detailed analysis of these climate indices for each decade during the period 1961–2020, graphs illustrating trend estimations over this period are presented for selected cities in Serbia with available meteorological data.

⚠️ The results clearly indicate a pronounced increasing trend 📈 in warming based on temperature indices, while for precipitation there is a particularly noticeable increase in the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation events.
